“Having enjoyed many beach holidays over the years at the little known paradise of North Stradbroke Island, we had a firm idea that we wanted to create a simple, modern “Straddie-style” beach cottage reminiscent of the classic post WW11 cottages that can still be seen there.

Our introduction to Shaun arose from our son who was studying architecture at QUT and his exposure to Shaun and his work. At our interview with Shaun it became apparent that he shared our love of Straddie having holidayed there for quite some years. In addition, he had already designed several houses at Point Lookout and therefore immediately understood the concept we were seeking to achieve and, to our advantage, understood the complexities of the local town planning requirements and the construction difficulties on Straddie. From early on, we were very impressed with his obvious talent, efficiency and connectivity. Shaun was very accurate in his guidance on project costings, choice of materials, predicted stage completions, his understanding of the microclimate and the need to maximise ventilation and natural lighting. Whilst Shaun is very creative, he also has the ability to be highly practical in his design and yet receptive and adaptive of his client’s concepts.

We were delighted with Shaun’s whole team and make a special mention of Jen Negline who was very intuitive, efficient and personable. Shaun also had an excellent relationship with the builder and as a result the whole project proceeded seamlessly and was completed ahead of schedule.

We are absolutely delighted with the outcome – we love being in our house with its beautiful and yet very practical architectural features. We extend our gratitude to Shaun, Jen and the team at SLA and recommend them highly.”
