Bathurst

Traditional lands of the Turrbal and Jagera people

Bathurst is an inner-city acreage home that draws inspiration from its rich natural and built environment. The natural context informs a detailed landscaping strategy that connects the occupants with extensive gardens and outdoor entertaining spaces. The built context, somewhat eclectic in its nature, initiates ideas about materiality that acknowledge the brick, timber, and tin characteristics of the suburb.

The addition of concrete to the material palette along with the choice of a modern, blonde brick offer a contemporary spin on what is intended as a reinterpretation of a traditional built form. Greying timbers and natural stone add warmth to the home and set up a neutral palette against which the rich, colourful, and eclectic interiors are intentionally juxtaposed. The playful interiors cater to the clients love of entertaining, family gatherings and lifestyle in the subtropics.

A strong and creative collaboration with experienced clients yielded an architectural outcome that celebrates the shared energies and passions of an invested project team. Bathurst is a delightful, unexpected surprise in its location, block size and personality, evoking a sense of joy and serendipity throughout the home.
