Traditional lands of the Turrbal and Jagera people
A large, north facing block of land with a grand proportioned Queenslander was the catalyst for this new home, which is all about family living, friends, and outdoor entertaining in the sub-tropics.
The pre-war home contains the kids’ bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor while the new extension and work in the under croft contains the living areas and the luxurious main bedroom suite with its own outdoor garden terrace. While there is a modest juxtaposition internally between the new and the old work, there is a sympathetic synergy that allows one to transition through the house with little awareness of the nearly 80 years that separates the parts.
The inclusion of a contemporary outdoor living pavilion pays homage to Palm Springs vibes and is very much the heart of the home accessing the kitchen, bar, garden court, pool, and tennis court. A warm and rich palette of stone, oak and concrete are contrasted against the stark white weatherboards and tessellated timber paneling that defines the ground plane.
