Cottonwood
2021
Traditional lands of the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara people
Cottonwood is a house originally designed by Richard Kirk Architect for the Elysium Estate in Noosa Heads over a decade ago. Shaun and Julie Lockyer bought the home being big fans of Kirk’s work, recognising the quality of the home and excited to breathe new personality into the home, while suitably respecting the design’s integrity.
The work done to the house by SLa is focused on the integration of the hard and soft landscaping, new lighting, addition of the fireplace, complete interior décor, art and tidy up of cabinetry and appliances. Fundamentally the house was wonderful in its design, but was tired and needing reinvigoration of finishes and replacement of décor.
The outcome is all about life in the sub-tropics and reinforcing the connection to the landscape and water, all of which has been enhanced with the inclusion of stone cladding and the removal of boundary fencing to assimilate the home to the crown land adjacent. The interior décor has been a key catalyst in the transformation of the home which now presents as a resort style sanctuary reflective and respectful of the extraordinary design that Richard Kirk originally imagined.
